The ex-Inter hardman feels Carlo Ancelotti's side are on the right track
to reach the final and has defended Jose Mourinho's pragmatic approach
against Atletico Madrid
Former Inter defender Ivan Cordoba believes Real Madrid could have beaten Bayern Munich by a bigger margin in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
Carlo
Ancelotti's men recorded a 1-0 home win last week courtesy of a Karim
Benzema strike midway through the first half and Cordoba is eagerly
anticipating the return in Munich on Tuesday.
"The tie is still
open, but Madrid have a good chance to progress if they follow [Carlo]
Ancelotti's intelligent technical and tactical instructions," Cordoba
told Goal.
"It will definitely not be easy in Germany, though. These kinds of games never are.
"Bayern
dominated in the opening 20 minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu, but in
the end Madrid could have won by a bigger margin, too."
The
former Colombia international also had his say on the semi-final between
Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, and defended Jose Mourinho's tactical
decisions in the goalless first leg at the Vicente Calderon.
"Chelsea's
approach against Atletico might have been very defensive, but each
coach has his own philosophy. It's all related to the importance of the
tie.
"We should not forget that the tie lasts 180 minutes. I have no doubts that it will be a different match in the return.
"Either
way, both coaches could surprise us because they have both shown
throughout this Champions League campaign what they are capable of."
